Question 1: Does the concrete ever crack?
Answer 1: Yes, hairline cracking may occur. However, this does not affect the structural integrity of the concrete. It can be patched or left visible, thus adding character to the look of the concrete.
Question 2: Does the concrete stain or is it waterproof?
Answer 2: Once the concrete seals it makes it water and stain resistant. It is best to clean up spills as soon as possible, especially oils and acidic liquids.
Question 3: Does the color ever vary?
Answer 3: Yes, since our product is hand made, color and texture may vary. This is part of the uniqueness of concrete.
Question 4: What is the maximum size a pre-cast slab can be?
Answer 4: Approximately 7' x 3', otherwise it has a tendency to crack or become too heavy to work with, seaming may be required.
Question 5: Can I put hot pans on the counter?
Answer 5: No, it is best to use hot pads or a trivet to avoid scorching the sealer.
Question 6: Can I cut directly on the counter?
Answer 6: No, use a cutting board instead. Knife marks can mar the sealed surface and set up areas for stains to form.
Question 7: How much can it cantilever without being supported?
Answer 7: No more than 10" with a 1.5" thick countertop.
Question 8: Who should install the counter?
Answer 8: Anyone who has marble or granite installation experience.
Question 9: Can I use it outdoors?
Answer 9: Yes, it is a great product for outdoor use.
Question 10: How do I clean it?
Answer 10: Use plain soap and water or any natural non-abrasive cleaner such as diluted Simple Green.
Question 11: How do I maintain the finish?
Answer 11: Regular maintenance will insure the long life of the concrete. Waxing with beeswax every couple of months will provide a level of protection and add patina to the surface.
Question 12: Do I have a choice of finishes?
Answer 12: Yes, we produce three different finishes. The first is a "hard trowelled" finish, the second is a "pressed" finish, the third is a "ground" finish. The hard trowelled look is all one color with variations in the finish caused by the trowel. The pressed look is a veined finish that may have one or more colors in the infill. The ground look is achieved by grinding the trowelled surface and exposing the aggregate.
Question 13: Do I have a choice of edge profiles?
Answer 13: Yes, almost any edge profile can be made from bullnose to ogee.
Question 14: Do you offer a warranty?
Answer 14: Yes, we offer a one year warranty against manufactural and structural defects.
